It’s fair to say that my love of all things wedding was sparked by depictions of weddings I saw as a young girl, either on television or in the movies. Watching someone walk down the aisle has always given me all the tingly feelings, whether that be in real life or on the big (or little) screen. Still to this day, it’s not unheard of for me to get a little teary-eyed at a wedding scene. That’s just me.

Since we’re facing another quarantine weekend (at least in LA), I thought it would be fun to round up a list of my favorite wedding movies. Granted, some of these are not just about weddings, but they include, in my humble opinion, spectacular wedding scenes that are part of the reason I continue to be enamored with the world of weddings. Read on, if you’d like, to see my favorites.

Father of the Bride

The Steve Martin version of this movie has been a forever-favorite of mine. He’s the sweetest father of the bride, while still remaining lovably flustered and comically frustrated at the cost of his only daughter’s wedding. And, there are so many quotable lines that never grow old! I would recommend starting with this one.

In Her Shoes

This adaptation of Jennifer Weiner’s novel of the same name is one of those movies that I always click and watch while channel surfing. The struggle between two sisters, opposite of each other in every way, yet always each other’s biggest fan, brings a tear to my sentimental heart every time. Watch it, I know you’ll love it.

Bridesmaids

If you haven’t seen this movie, where have you been? It is hilarious. Like chuckle-for-hours-later hilarious. When I was considering which photo to use here, I almost...almost used the one of Maya Rudolph in the big fancy wedding dress in the middle of the street, uttering the famous line “It’s Happening.” If you know, you know. If you don’t, go watch this immediately and report back!

The Wedding Planner

Did you really think this one wouldn’t be on my list? I mean, I’m a wedding planner after all (and side note, if I had a dollar for every person who has ever asked me if I’ve seen this movie, I would be richer than J.Lo!). It’s also a long-time favorite and, bonus for me, it’s set in San Francisco (where I eloped with my husband)!

Steel Magnolias

This one is a roller-coaster ride of emotions. The wedding actually happens early in the movie, but be sure to watch the whole thing…and have a box of tissues nearby. Also, there are so many iconic scenes in this movie. I daresay I would win any contest based on quoting lines from this one!

Bride Wars

Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson are two of my favorites, so when I saw that they were both in this movie, I had to watch. The premise is the stuff of a bride’s nightmare, but I can happily say that I’ve only ever heard of this happening in real life once or twice. Go watch if you don’t know what I’m talking about!

Love Actually

I don’t think this one is actually deemed a wedding movie as often as it’s referred to as a holiday movie, but the wedding that happens almost right away is so good. The stuff of modern wedding dreams, I would dare to say. (Except for the DJ and the Catering, it seems). And that boat ride at the end of the wedding. Gah! Watch it for the wedding scenes, and then stick around because the whole movie is a gem.

Crazy Rich Asians

Do you like entertaining, over-the-top scenarios with a wedding that will go down in wedding history? Then you have to see Crazy Rich Asians. I think I smiled all the way through it, and I’m just about due to watch again because the whole thing is just that good.

Runaway Bride

Julia Roberts wears multiple wedding dresses in this movie, running the gamut from classic to retro and everything in between. What I remember from this movie is an independent woman who is a little gun-shy about getting married, which is fine, except that the nerves really hit her at an alarmingly late time in the planning process. I haven’t seen this one in awhile, so I may have to add it to the queue for this weekend!

Sweet Home Alabama

I wanted to be Reese Witherspoon’s character after I saw this movie. She’s a feisty southern gal who found love and built an amazing life in NYC. Her future husband is the McDreamiest (if ya know ya know), but the bad news is that she hasn’t quite gotten around to finalizing the divorce from husband number one. Comedy ensues. And then she walks down the aisle in that dress with that veil (which I promptly copied for my own wedding). Watch this one and I bet it’ll become one of those movies that stops you in your tracks every time you run across it on the channel guide.

Sex and the City

This movie gets photos of two dresses because they were wildly different, but equally gorgeous. If you know me, you know I loved this movie (and the series) and I’ve watched both too many times to count. I can’t go into too much detail without giving everything away. If you love fashion, NYC and a modern-day love story, you’ll enjoy this movie as much as I did.

11 Wedding Movies to Binge This Weekend
